Discover a new hobby

Have you ever wondered what karate is really like? Now you can give it a try easily and with no commitment. JKS Finland is hosting a free event where you can watch a karate demonstration and try some basic karate techniques yourself under the guidance of our instructors.

The event is suitable for both children and adults, and no previous experience is needed. You do not need a karate uniform or any special equipment – simply come along in comfortable clothes suitable for light exercise. No advance registration is required.

Time and place

  • Time: Sunday, 16 August 2026, 11:00–13:00
  • Location: JKS Finland dojo. Mekaanikonkatu 17, 00880 Helsinki.

What happens at the event?

During the event, you will have the opportunity to discover karate both by watching and by trying it yourself.

The programme includes a karate demonstration, where you can see what karate looks like in practice, as well as a guided trial session, where you can safely try some basic karate techniques in a relaxed and beginner-friendly environment.

Our aim is to make it as easy as possible to experience the sport and find out whether karate could become a new hobby for you or your child.

You will also have the opportunity to talk with our instructors and learn more about JKS Finland and our upcoming beginner courses for children and adults.

Who is the event for?

The event is for children aged 7–12, teens and adults.

You are welcome even if you have never tried karate or any other martial art before. The trial session is designed for complete beginners, and all exercises are guided and adapted to your own level.

You are also welcome to come just to watch the karate demonstration and decide at the event whether you would like to join the trial session.

No previous experience needed

You do not need to be especially fit, have a sports background or know anything about karate beforehand.

All you need is an interest in trying something new. Our instructors will guide you through the exercises step by step, making it easy to take part even if this is your very first time.

What should you bring?

You do not need a karate uniform.

For the trial session, all you need is, for example:

  • a T-shirt and sweatpants or other comfortable, flexible sportswear
  • a water bottle
  • an open mind and a willingness to give it a try

We train barefoot.
